About Us

The Samaritan Village is an organisation that has established an orphanage in Tanzania, East Africa.

The founder, Elizabeth Mwalozi, lives in Yuba City USA. However, she is very familiar with the people of Tanzania and their needs. She was born in Tanzania. As a teenager she worked with many abandoned babies who had been brought to the school where she was a student. Unfortunately, the school could only keep the children for a short time. Once they left the school most of them died.

In 1963 Elizabeth came to the United States to further her education in home economics so that she could better serve the needy children of her homeland. She received an AA degree from Kenosha Technical College in Wisconsin, and a BA degree in vocational education from California State University, San Francisco.

God's plan for Elizabeth was for her to remain in the United States teaching about East African culture and its language. However, the orphans continued to be one of her main concerns. She discovered that God would have her use the resources she could find in the United States to establish an orphanage in Tanzania where the children could stay until they could care for themselves.

Elizabeth shared this vision with a prayer group in Yuba City. As a result, an orphanage was established in a rented house in Arusha Tanzania in 1996 and the Samaritan Village Thrift Shop and African Import Store was opened in Yuba City to raise the money needed for operational expenses.

After operating for seven years, the Thrift and African Import Store had to close its doors due to rent increases. The work continues from the home of the founder.
